A Retreat Center Operating For The Greater Good

Your stay at Tierra Retreat Center brings you into a larger learning community organization, The Tierra Learning Center. You can find out more about us on the left. Our shared commitment is to the stewardship of the land and positive community development. The Retreat Center continues to develop with these values and invites guests to participate in this larger vision.

Experience Four Seasons

Located on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains, Tierra Retreat Center experiences the flavor of four distinct seasons. Snug and snowy in the winter, Tierra blooms into an incredible array of spring wildflowers, with balsam root, lupine and paintbrush covering the hillsides. Summer brings strings of hot, sunny days with river time often on the mind. Fall is spectacular, with crisp nights, frequent clear days and layers of vibrant foliage.

Location

Sunitsch Canyon is located between Leavenworth and Plain, in the Wenatchee river watershed. This area is renowned for spectacular wilderness and endless recreation opportunities – including river trips, rock climbing, hiking, biking and bird watching.

Briefest of Histories

Tierra Learning Center has been in existence since 2001. Before, Sunitsch Canyon had hosted numerous different retreat and camp operations, endearing itself to many people. Originally homesteaded in the 1890’s, Sunitsch Canyon provided some of the first seed potatoes in the region along with a substantial Holstein herd and operation. And before, Sunitsch Canyon developed its beautiful pine and balsam root ecosystem and hosted local Wenatchi Indian use.

Forward Vision

Tierra Retreat Center, alongside the Tierra Learning Center, take our stewardship responsibilities to mean not only regenerating the soil and caring for the forests but also to include continuously reducing our energy consumption and exploring options for alternative fuel sources. The Retreat Center welcomes guests into a positive and including community – stewardship also means, to us, maintaining a sane human operation in this natural setting, keeping it open for visitors and including people with developmental disabilities in our endeavors.

Our Guests

Tierra Retreat Center is proud to host annual programs administered by two excellent organizations: The Power of Hope and Remote Medical International (RMI).

  • RMI teaches and certifies Wilderness EMT’s in a 26 day course.
  • The Power of Hope is an absolutely inspiring youth empowerment organization that offers creative summer camps for high school students.

Both organizations embody many of Tierra Learning Center’s wider values and participation in either course comes with our highest recommendations. Please contact them directly for more information about their programs here at Tierra.
